This beautiful couples anniversary session was so much fun to photograph! I love anniversary sessions because the couples are always so relaxed and know each other so well. At this point, they’ve been married for at least a year and know all about each other’s best and worst traits, along with all the little quirks. They have inside jokes and totally know how to make each other laugh. That makes my job as a photographer easy, and I love seeing how obvious it is that they made the right choice to get married to each other.

This session took place on the cliffs in Malibu right by the beach. The weather was absolutely perfect, with gorgeous blue skies, that glowing golden sun and the wind that swept through hair beautifully. The woman was wearing a beautiful flowy purple dress that looked just stunning in the wind. These were actually taken during the Blair + Thurston retreat, so I let myself play around with the light a little more than I would with a normal client’s session! I loved that I was able to get the perfect starburst between them, and we even played around with direct light. The session lasted almost two hours, so the sun was actually quite high in the sky when we first started. Elena showed us how she filters the light when it is higher in the sky to get beautiful golden backlight that doesn’t overwhelm the subjects or the background. I always love watching other photographers work because I always learn something new. It was a treat to watch Bre and Elena work. Not only are they some of my dearest friends, they are incredibly talented photographers.
